As part of this initiative, Christensen Farms offers a Production Internship program geared towards college students pursuing a degree in Animal Science, or similar agricultural degree. The Production Internship Program is an advanced level opportunity that provides students with exposure to all areas of a leading swine production company. The internship program offers individuals a 360-degree view of what goes into state-of-the-art swine production systems, which includes training, hands-on work experience, and professional development activities. Students will have the opportunity to network with industry professionals and gain exposure to all areas of the overall business. Competitive pay and housing provided. Interns are typically based out of Minnesota however we have had interns at our farms in other states as well.

Duties:

Participants in the Production Internship will spend time being exposed to different areas of sow production, including genetics and multiplication, sow breeding, farrowing and health strategies, nursery and finishing. In addition, students will have the opportunity to learn the essentials of the pork industry including: animal welfare, food safety, pork quality, neighbor and public relations, cost versus production decision making, environmental initiatives, and employee relations.

Qualifications:

Seeking individuals currently pursuing either an Associates or Bachelors degree in Animal Science, Ag. Business, or equivalent degree. Qualified individuals will display a strong desire to learn and get involved in the swine industry. Previous livestock exposure is a plus, but not required. Students must be able to commit to a minimum 10-week duration spanning from the end of May through the first week in August. Participants will be required to work Monday through Friday and one weekend during the internship.
