QA Manager – Raw

About this Job:

This position is responsible for ensuring that the manufacturing processes are executed to “best in class” industry standards and to do everything possible to eliminate, reduce or mitigate food safety risk. Responsible for improvement of current food safety programs and the assistance in the development and implementation of new food safety programs in a raw meat food manufacturing facility.

Accountabilities

1. Carries supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
2. Manages plant food safety and quality compliance (GFSI, BRC, Food Defense, etc.)
3. Educates, assist and coordinate plant production and sanitation to consistently meet food safety requirements as defined by Codex, GFSI (SQF, BRC, IFS), and other regulatory or “best in class” industry standards.
4. Maintains Plant and product standards and specifications with focus on pathogen testing programs.
5. Cooperatively auditing facilities with senior management (food defense, etc)
6. Assists in implementation of a Supplier Quality Program for all raw material suppliers to enhance product traceability, quality, safety and consistency.
7. Reviews and enhances, as appropriate, all existing quality systems, policies and procedures.
8. Assists in planning and direction of all activities necessary to maintain best in class food safety and quality standards for their food production facility.
9. Performs other job-related duties as may be assigned or required.

Requirement:

Knowledge

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as regulatory guidelines, keep laboratory and food testing facility results
• Ability to speak effectively before groups
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
• Communicate and work with people from all levels of the company
• Strong Project Management skills
• Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal leadership skills along with superior analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Ability to express technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Strong leadership qualities– ability to build teams and influence at all levels of plant management

Education/Experience

• BS degree in a food science, microbiology, chemistry and/or quality related field preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years experience and expertise in quality assurance and food safety management of a food manufacturing facility. Experience in USDA and/or FDA inspected facilities is required; pork background is a plus.
• Direct experience with third party audits like AIB, Silliker, Cook and Thurber, Steritech, etc.
• Experience and professional knowledge in the development and operation of quality control information systems, applications and analysis of testing and inspection procedures
