About this Job:

Responsible for daily operations and long-term strategy of the Health Management Center Diagnostic Laboratory (HMC DXL) including oversight of personnel, equipment, and budget.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Responsible for planning and execution of HMC DXL short-term and long-term objectives. This will be accomplished in part with participation in HMC leadership team (HMCLT) meetings and interactions with the Director of Swine Technical Services and HMC Field Research Services (HMC FRS) manager. Help ensure coordination of HMC DXL services with swine technical, sales, and marketing strategies and objectives. Interaction with R&D will also help ensure appropriate diagnostic support of new and existing products.
Responsible for operational oversight of the HMC DXL including effective utilization of resources, tracking of expenses, invoicing customers and internal cross-charging. Provide metrics including HMC DXL volumes, expenses, and revenue and share monthly with HMCLT and to the swine leadership team (SLT) as requested. Oversight will also include equipment assessment, capital purchasing, and equipment maintenance and repair as necessary.
Responsible for HMC DXL personnel including 8-10 direct reports. Provide coaching toward continuous improvement of operations as well as personal and career development of laboratory personnel. Specific responsibilities include implementation of annual maximizing performance system and TMNet talent management system. Develop and update daily lab schedule based upon customer needs, diagnostic volumes, and laboratory personnel availability.
Responsible for technical advancement of the HMC DXL via new assay validation and implementation and representation of HMC DXL at appropriate veterinary diagnostic and swine veterinary conferences. Specific responsibilities include oversight of the Technical Service Profile (TSP) process coordinating projects with the diagnostic laboratory scientists and marketing technical managers. Also responsible for publishing relevant data to maintain technical leadership position in coordination with marketing technical managers.
Support other US and Global Swine Team initiatives consistent with strategic objectives and core competencies including but not limited to training associated with diagnostic procedures and subsequent results interpretation.
Responsible for maintaining ISO 17025 accreditation (in collaboration with quality manager). Performs all Company business in accordance with all regulations (e.g., EEO, FDA, USDA/APHIS) and Company policy and procedures. When violations are noted/observed they are to be immediately reported to management

Requirement:

Master’s degree (Biology) and/or DVM or PhD
At least 1 year of leadership experience leading employees and leading projects.
5+ years diagnostic laboratory experience including PCR/molecular biology and immunological assays (ELISA, IFA).
Experience working within a structured quality system (GLP, ISO, or AAVLD accreditation systems) required, experience with ISO accreditation desired.
Working knowledge and understanding of LIMS systems required.
Desired capabilities include: trend analysis, SPC charting, database SQL (structured query language), lab equipment acquisition/troubleshooting, training, and public speaking.
Highly desired to be an AAVLD member.
Knowledge of genetics and/or bioinformatics is highly desired.
Some travel will be required to attend meetings and appropriate laboratory or veterinary diagnostic conferences and seminars.

Salary: 80000 - 110000 USD/month
