Associate Scientist

About this Job:

The Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory at the College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applicants for an Associate Scientist. This position will provide advanced scientific leadership and conduct complex laboratory research on multiple collaborative projects focusing on immunology, microbiology, and host-pathogen interactions, primarily related to diseases of swine. Responsibilities of this position will include the development of protocol for collaborative research projects, evaluation of current laboratory tests for possible improvement, and the development of new laboratory tests for use in routine diagnosis of animal infectious diseases. The Associate Scientist will present and defend research results at professional meetings, draft manuscripts for publication with collaborating co-authors, and write research proposals for funding of future research projects. This position will have an integral role in laboratory management, trouble-shooting assays, and supervising undergraduate and graduate students and staff.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated and possess excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills as well as strong organizational, leadership, project management, and problem solving abilities.

Requirement:

Required Qualifications
MS degree plus five (5) years of experience or Ph.D. plus two (2) years of experience. Degree must in microbiology, molecular biology, or a biological science, and experience must include relevant laboratory experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in microbiology, molecular biology and protein analysis
- Demonstrated excellent writing skills
- Experience training, mentoring, and/or advising staff and students
- Experience in statistical analysis of data
- Experience in flow cytometry, microbiological assays and/or molecular techniques
- Evidence of a publication record involving the study of host-microbe interactions
- History of presenting research at national and/or international scientific meetings
